Never Will I Go Back to Springs Chris #2011-02-25

The background: My wife and I bought our first king size bed in April 2005. Three years later the thing was already sagging down the middle. Lived with it for a year and then finally made a warranty claim. The company stripped the bed down to the springs and rebuilt a new mattress. Lasted 8 months before terrible again.

So I read Consu. Reports and lo and behold, besides the fact that it states that mattresses are the number one inquired about review next to cars, they don't actually rate any mattresses. I guess it is b/c the companies give each store their own model so it is impossible to compare. C.R. did, however, give satisfaction survey numbers on the different manufacturers. It was amazing. All but one were 50% or lower (the question, I believe, was would you buy another mattress of this brand). Most were much lower than 50% (Serta was 35%). I mean WOW. It is disheartening to think that the vast majority of people are unhappy with their beds. And yes, this includes those Sleep Number, outrageously priced people (I can buy an inflatable queen mattress at Wal-Mart for $15. Why does putting a case around it make it worth $3,000?)

Well, the ONE COMPANY that had higher than 50% was Tempur Pedic (around 60%, not great, but better than the rest). Problem is, even though I could afford it, there is no way I am paying $3,300 for a 12" king size mattress. My first thought is, "China makes everything for 1/100th of the cost", so I started Googling memory foam mattresses. Well to my pleasant surprise the good ole USA came through with Sleep Innovations.

I read all, and I mean all the reviews. Seems to me like the ones that are Amazon Vine reviews (which are a lot) are bogus, purposely placed customer reviews. But weeding through the bogus ones, you could see that people were happy with it. I was still concerned though because I read horror stories from customer reviews on another off-brand memory mattress at Amazon. Stuff like the corners not ever flattening out and the company saying it could only be returned in the original box (which is absolutely impossible - the thing is vacuum sealed in there).

So I called the company. I am expecting terrible service and it was the complete opposite. Got someone right away, very nice, non-outsourced woman who said that the company had been in business for 12 years; yes I could return the mattress within the 20 year warranty and I would not have to use the same box (which when I asked that question, she stated flatly, "that would be impossible").

The product: I took the dive and bought it. The real test is how it will feel in 5 years, but I can't fast forward five years to tell you what's what. (And to that end, I figured I could get six of these for the price of a Tempur Pedic.) But I can say that two weeks into it and I love this bed. A couple bullet points:

1. No problem with the hotness issue you read about, but it is not summer. I figure worst case scenario, I will add an egg crate on top to have some separation from my body and the foam mattress if I have a heat issue. I should note that we had an 80 degree day recently and I had no heat issues that night.

UPDATE: Have had 99 degree weather days and no problems (of course we use the A/C (keep it on 78), but I thought I should add that).

2. Foam smell went away. Again, if it hadn't, I would have bought an egg crate so my nose wasn't right on it.

3. It is a firm mattress. You would never believe it if you sat on the side but when your whole body is stretched out, it is firm. It is a good firm though. I always thought I was a soft mattress guy, but after sleeping 4 years on a pillow top and a bad back to show it, I am making the switch. I figured if I needed it softer, I could buy an egg crate (see a pattern here?).

4. DO NOT TAKE OFF THE WHITE COTTON COVER. This is apparently the equivalent of the do not remove for penalty of jail tag. If you read the brochure that comes with the mattress it tells you that the warranty is void if you do that. So put some other cover over that if you must.

5. My wife has a memory foam pillow and it contours big time to your head and if you move your head, it is like you are squishing down Mount Everest again. This mattress is not like that. Very mild contouring which I think is a real plus.

6. As other reviews say, it is heavy as Hades. I got it upstairs with me pushing it up with my back and my wife getting it over each stair hump. I would NOT recommend this if you have a bad back, etc. Get a couple guys to do it.

Anyway it is late, I am tired, and I have a fantastic bed to go sleep in.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, we have had numerous 100+ degree weather days here in Georgia. Fortunately, however, I have not had any problems with feeling hot because of the bed.

Sure Temp???? MB #2010-08-24

We have slept on this mattress for 3 nights, and found that everything said about it in the product description is true, except for one thing: There is no cool comfort. This mattress gets roasting hot after a few hours of sleeping on it. Yes, it's August, but we live in Idaho and it gets chilly at night. Plus, we are both cold sleepers. Waking up in the middle of the night and having to get out of bed because it's too hot is a new and unpleasant experience for us.

There is really no way to send this product back, so we are stuck with it. We called Sleep Innovations and asked them to explain what they meant by marketing this as "Sure Temp." They assured us that the foam is open cell and does not trap heat. Buyer beware.

The only way I can think to remedy the problem is to put a thick mattress pad on top, maybe of wool, to keep the foam from getting too hot.

Otherwise, it's very comfortable to sleep on. We don't hurt when we get up in the morning.

Not super impressed Colleen #2011-01-30

I purchased this mattress based on all the excellent reviews here. I know it's always risky to purchase a mattress without trying, but I figured it was worth the risk given the very reasonable price.

I'd slept with a memory foam topper before and absolutely loved it, so I thought this mattress would measure up. Unfortunately I find it to be very uncomfortable. It's on the firm side, and there's only 2.5" of memory foam (vs. some pricier mattresses where the memory foam goes deeper). I just don't "sink in" to the mattress like I was hoping -- it's more like I hover on top of the foam. It gave me terrible back pain to sleep on my side, as my hips sank in slightly while my legs remained elevated. It doesn't have a lot of give to it. I only find it comfortable to sleep directly on my back.

I ordered a memory foam topper to add on top of it, and that has made a huge difference. I bought the Sleep Studio 2-Inch ViscO2 Ventilated Memory Foam Mattress Topper, Queen. Adding that, I actually sink in and it feels like I'm sleeping on a cloud.

If you're willing to spend more on a topper and a cushiony mattress pad, you can make this a very comfortable mattress. By itself it just doesn't do the job. Given the cheap price it still may be worth it.

Truth, this mattress rocks! Sleeping Better #2011-05-06

Okay, so here was my situation. When my pillow top mattress arrived years ago the delivery guys said they could not get it upstairs into my bedroom because they would have to bend it in order to get it up the stairs. Well, the sales guy at the store said the mattress could bend in order to fit it up the stairs so we told the delivery guys to just "get it up there!" They did and everything was fine, for awhile. Recently we noticed a large valley in the middle of the king sized, pillow top mattress. At first it was no big deal but the last month or so, it was HORRIBLE! So, I was on the hunt for a new mattress. I knew I needed a memory foam mattress because it needed to fit up stairs. And mind you, I don't live in an elf house but the doorway to the upstairs is at a strange angle so no spring mattresses will work.

What does everyone do when they start looking at memory foam mattresses? They look at that name brand memory foam mattress that costs thousands of dollars. I didn't really want to spend that much money, I mean, who does. But I would have if that was the only mattress that I felt was going to work for my wife and I. Now this part is important, I did a TON of research on the internet. No need to research folks, I did it for you! It came down to this mattress or the one available at Sam's Club. After doing more research and Amazon's great reputation, I decided to try this mattress. And I am SO GLAD that I did!

I ordered the mattress and it took a week and half to get to me. No problem. The shipping was free, yes free! So how could I complain? That mattress came in a box about 4.5 feet tall and about 2 feet deep. It was heavy, about 100 lbs. I was able to get it into the house and up my stairs by myself. Any man, in any decent kind of physical shape, will be able to push, pull, carry or drag the box into their house and up stairs. Some women can do it too I am sure! Not trying to be sexist, just realistic.

Anyway, I set up my new bed frame, the folding frame by Structure available and purchased from Amazon as well. This frame is great. SO EASY to put together! Just fold open and screw the two sides together done. Way easier and better for your memory foam mattress than a standard box spring. Once the frame was set up I opened the box and pulled out the mattress. The mattress will be FOLDED IN HALF and scrunched up so it looks like Z's from the side. It will also be in a plastic bag in which all the air has been sucked out. PUT THE MATTRESS ON THE FRAME BEFORE CUTTING OPEN THIS BAG. The down side of the mattress is blue. This is really the only part of the mattress that you will see in the bag since it is folded over. As long as the mattress is on the frame, you can turn it in the right direction after opening the bag. Carefully cut the bag open and you will start to hear the air being sucked in. The mattress will start to get bigger but no need to go super fast as you will have plenty of time to cut open the bag and pull it out from under the mattress.

Once the bag is off the mattress starts to get bigger and bigger and bigger. Once it opens up you will feel bumps an dips in the mattress. Don't worry, after an hour or two these will no longer be there. There is a smell. The room will smell as if you recently painted the walls. This smell slowly goes away. It really is no big deal. In fact, after I made up the bed, I could barely smell it.

The mattress does come with a protecter already over it but I would recommend putting your own on it as well. King size sheets went on perfectly. Hour after hour the mattress would feel better. I was really surprised how nice it felt.

Okay, so I opened the mattress around 1pm. At about 10pm my wife and I went up to bed. The mattress felt like a dream! It is a bit firm but once you lay down, you will slowly melt into it. You will not sink down 6 inches or anything like that, but you will melt in an inch or so. And it will feel fantastic! The mattress did feel a bit warmer than my old one, but IT WAS NOT HOT! You really won't notice a big difference. I slept great last night! Way better than my last mattress! One I paid around 2 grand for!!!! What a rip!

Here are some other things that I read in other reviews.

It is hard to get out of the bed. Not so. You can sit on the side, move around, get in and out. No problem.
"Non-sleeping activities" are tough in this bed. Not at all. If their are problems, it ain't the bed!
It stinks. Like I said before, like fresh paint in the room. But as of today, I smell nothing. No worries!
It is too firm. I don't think so. I usually like soft beds. But this one has changed my mind.
You must work for Amazon or Sleep Innovations. Haha. Nope. City employee who is hoping I have a pension in 20 years (fingers crossed).

I had MAJOR reservations about purchasing a mattress without ever trying it. But what was I going to do? I was kinda stuck. But I pulled the trigger on this mattress and I DON'T REGRET IT! Not one bit! If you are on the fence about purchasing this mattress, just DO IT! I have been looking at this mattress since Christmas! Yes, that long! I should have bought it then. I'm glad I did and like one poster said, if it only lasts 5 years, so what! I can buy another one for a fraction of the cost of the "name brand" memory foam mattress. But I don't see that as being a problem because everything about this mattress is impressive.

If you have any questions, I will check back and answer them for you.

Not what I expected after reading all the good reviews. Gonzo #2011-02-15

Before I bought this mattress I read every single review here on Amazon about this specific mattress. I've had it since 1/7/2011, I am writing this review 2/15/2011.
The delivery was perfect, once I cut the plastic open it fully expanded. I gave it 48 hours of breathing time before I slept on it. The mattress is supposed to be comfortable, however everyday I wake up with pain on my shoulder, part of my back and arm from sleeping on the mattress. I am not a picky person. As a US Marine i've slept in just about every environment and I have traveled and slept in many places.

When you first lay on the Mattress it feels very comfortable and spongy like cushy. However after enough time for your body to fully sink to the foam it becomes hard.
I am not overweight or anything like that, I am 6 feet tall and I weight 190 pounds, I am 25 years old.

I usually sleep sideways on this mattress and sometimes laying on my back or stomach. I did not even attempt to return my queen mattress because I just didn't want to deal with the impossible way to return it.

I sleep on the mattress everyday, at this point I don't have the choice because i just cant afford to buy another mattress.

I would not recommend this mattress to anybody but ultimately you will probably buy it due to the majority of good reviews just like I did. When you regret buying it just remember my review.

Not a Tempur Pedic but Maybe close ??? ccp #2011-01-10

I have waited a month to do this review to be as accurate as possible on this purchase. We researched this purchase extensively before deciding to purchase prior to the holidays. We previously had a Simmons Euro top ultra plush king that only lasted 5 years before it started to become uncomfortable and bother my back. We went to numerous stores to lay on Tempur pedic mattresses and other brands. We could not justify spending $3000 on a mattress that we might not like. It seemed like people either loved or hated these memory foam products.
We were a bit apprehensive about purchasing online but the reviews of this product were mostly positive. At a third of the price i figured we couldn't go wrong. We did look at other companies but there were some concerns about the foam being used and where the products were being made. sleep innovations website was good and revlieved any fears on the foam etc.

We had free shipping but it did take close to 4 weeks to get the product which was a little surprising. It comes in a VERY small box that required two people to lift but it could easily be pushed. We opened it up on the foundation as diagramed in the instructions. It was quite cold but it still flattened out within about 2 hours. I have a sensitive nose and my wife even moreso and we noticed essentially NO smell which we were prepared for based on other reviews. We waited 2 days to sleep on it.

Here is where we found the difference between the Tempur Pedic product and the SI mattress. I found the mattress to be quite hard and honestly rather uncomfortable for the first 2 weeks. The "sink" in feeling of the TP beds just wasnt there. My wife was starting to get frusterated with it so we purchased a Down "topper" cover to go over it and PERFECT.... It is now much more comfortable and we are both sleeping better.

We are not big people but it seemed like we bottomed out the memory foam and were sleeping more on the hard foam product. In any event, now I feel like we have a good bed that is comfortable and will hopefully last at still a third of the price of a Tempur pedic.....But had to add the Topper to get the desired comfort we wanted...

I love this mattress! J. SPIEGEL "Joe" #2010-09-29

Nice idea, needs more accurate description Darenj1975 #2011-05-23

First off, I would like to say this mattress seems of good quality, and was handled VERY well by Amazon.com and the seller. Where I take issue, is the description. This mattress is VERY VERY FIRM, and buyer beware!! If you are looking for a plush mattress, or "forgiving" like its more expensive counterparts, then go with the 10 inch, or other brand and get a decent memory foam topper. The first night me and my wife knew right away that it was too firm, and neither of us slept well. We ended up using our 2 year old 2 inch memory foam topper (purchased at walmart) the second night, and it felt... a little better...) but we likely will be returning this mattress and purchasing the 10 inch, or other smaller less expensive mattress and going with a softer memory foam topper.

Pros: Mattress was vacuum packed, and unpacked relatively easily. It fully expanded in minutes, (not the hours stated in the instructions ) and there was hardly any odor. No hot foam problem either, my wife and I were comfortable temp wise.
Cons: Mattress was vacuum packed, and if you are not a strong person, or have help, you will not move or get this mattress where you need it easily. (this was a king size, over 100 lb) The mattress comes in a cover, and I feel this is a waste since you cannot take it off to wash and its recommended you buy a separate one anyway.(as we did, the six sided one, very very nice) they could ship it in a basic cover and be done. Also, no up/down indications on the mattress or the instructions (since this is a layered mattress, I would imagine this is an important fact overlooked!!!) We guessed right initially. But, this was my first thought as to it being too firm, "maybe we have it upside down!"
This mattress is VERY VERY Firm. Very little displacement on the "Memory Foam" top 2.5 inches. I am about 5'11" and 210lb my wife is similarly sized. we are both "tossers" / side sleepers (just to give those out there a frame of reference)
They should have grades of firmness available. Granted firmness is in the eye of the beholder, and I learned the hard way, as I have seen this through the reviews.
Buyer beware, and pay attention to the reviews
Overall, this is a "Nice" mattress, good warranty, American made, and with Amazon.com behind it, we cannot go wrong, just wish I would have paid more attention to those reviews out there of it being firm!!!

Best Sleep I've Had in Years Joel #2011-01-01

Ordering this product on Amazon Prime One Day shipping really convinced me I was living in the future. I clicked buy and received a queen sized mattress compressed into a relatively tiny box the next day, unpacked the box, let the mattress expand and fell blissfully asleep on it 3-hours later that same night. I promptly opened a can of beer set it on one side of the mattress and jumped up and down with glee and to my child-like astonishment, this was not TV magic, the can did not tip over!

Moving into my first apartment ditching my childhood mattress of 5 years, and shunning the extra-long genera-twin beds of my college dorms this mattress was heavenly. I no longer toss and turn! I used to take hours to fall asleep, and blamed my over-analyzing brain, turns out it was simply horrible mattresses!

I would recommend this mattress to anyone. It is the perfect firmness, perfect temperature--I am a hot sleeper and was expecting this to be a serious issue--and the most comfortable sleep I have ever had. Having stayed in 5-star hotels with Tempurpedic beds, this mattress gives me sweeter dreams for 1/5th the price!

Only possible con is the smell, which dissipates within a few days.

Great value! Ericka Menchen Trevi #2011-01-16

My in-laws thought we were crazy to buy a mattress online, but it turned out to be a great purchase. My husband and I read the reviews here and the only negative thing that seemed to pop up in several reviews was that it could be hot, so we bought the Sleep Studio 2-Inch ViscO2 Ventilated Memory Foam Mattress Topper, Queen as well. I'm not sure if it would have felt hot without that, but we haven't had any problems. We've been using it for about a week now and it's extremely comfortable.

Given the hight of the mattress topper, the only thing I feel I might have done differently is order the 10" mattress so that it's not quite so deep since our sheets just barely fit around it with the topper and mattress pad. This is my first memory foam mattress, so I was worried that maybe the 10" wouldn't be deep enough, but now given my experience with the 12", I'm sure the 10" would be fine.

We considered buying the memory foam mattress from the store where we purchased the bed frame for $1,700 (!). This turned out to be a great value.

unbelievable value hippolytusartemis "h #2011-04-11

I previously owned a Stearns and Foster mattress bought on sale for $2000.00. After about a year it developed a slump in the middle. I contacted the store where I had purchased the mattress but they said the depression had to be something like 2 inches to be covered by warranty. After years of uncomfortable sleep and enormous buyer's remorse I saw this foam mattress and decided to take a chance. I am very glad I did. It is quite comfortable. The price is great. The shipping was free. It did have a chemical smell when I first opened the packaging up and got the mattress situated. I simply opened the windows and slept on the couch the first night. Surprisingly, the mattress is made in the USA and the cover in Canada. Bonus! The only concern I have is durability. That I cannot comment on, but I will try to update in the future. Even if it only lasts a year or two it is one fifth the price of my previous mattress. Overall it is really more than I expected. I sometimes have lower back issues and this mattress is more comfortable than my Stearns and Foster was when brand new. I really cannot recommend it highly enough. If you need a new mattress this is a great value.

Comfortable, but get the 10 Inch muir #2011-02-23

i ended up having two different versions of this mattresses to compare and several nights sleeping experience on both this 12-inch version and the 10-inch version by sleep innovations. the only difference was this version has 2.5" of memory foam and 9.5" of regular foam and the 10-inch version has 3" of memory foam and 7" of regular foam. the foams themselves (both the memory foam and the regular foam) are the exact same in the two mattresses. i at first got the 12-inch version cause it was slightly more expensive so i assumed slightly better, and it slept well. but i realized i was using no where near the full 9.5" of regular foam in the base. at most probably more like 2" to 4" inches of it if that (i'm 6'1" 200lbs). i honestly think even if i was the same height and 300lbs i'd bet i'd still only use at most 5-6" of the regular foam (when you are lying down your weight is distributed over the bed). honestly maybe up to 400lbs before i think 7" would be insufficient. so the extra regular foam really makes no difference but i DID feel a difference between the 2.5" of memory foam and the 3" of memory foam and liked the 3" considerably better. plus the 10-inch is cheaper, so go w/ that version. they both sleep nice but that one is the better of the two.

Wonderful E. Collins #2010-11-27

We love this mattress. I would recommend this to anyone. We bought it 4 weeks ago, and now it is $80 less.
After it was opened and expanded we used it that night, about 6 hours later. It is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. I have experienced two "hot" spots, over 10 days, but nothing that would stop me from using this mattress. My husband loves it. It might take a second to get used to the feel of the softness, how it sinks in.
Now as soon as we lay on the bed it is just "sweet", and you feel so relaxed; I would not want another bed. It was delivered right on time, and we put it on the bed when we opened it. I didn't notice any smell. I had looked at many "traditional" mattresses at the sleep shops, and the least inexpensive was mid $500 range. I would not trade it for any of the high-end others. Buy this mattress, you will be glad you did.

Maybe I got a lemon? Dr of Liw #2010-12-10

I was looking for a bed for my son, and found this one for a great price with free shipping. I read through all of the other Sleep Innovations mattress reviews on Amazon, and felt confident in this product. Shipping was very fast, I received the mattress next day, even though it was supposed to take longer. The mattress was fairly heavy (as expected) and took both my wife and I to carry it up the stairs. I opened the box and followed the manufacturer's instructions for setup. The mattress began to unfold immediately, but even after 72 hours, it never unfolded completely flat. Instead, the mattress 'bowed' a little (think of a hammock) somewhere in the range of 3-6 inches short of flat on either side. Also, there was a definite smell, which I can't even describe very well... 'chemical' i guess... which did subside a little bit, but never completely went away, even after 72 hours.

So, unfortunately no one ever got to sleep on the mattress, so I cannot speak for comfort. It was soft to the touch and the foam responded quickly when I pressed and removed my hand. The quality of the mattress appeared to be satisfactory.

Looking back on this purchase, I valued the reviews of others on Amazon, but in this case, it appears that I am one of the few to actually purchase and offer a review of this product who is not a member of the Amazon Vine program. Not to say that the Vine reviews are artificially inflated, but I'm not sure if it is a coincidence or just bad luck that I am not a Vine member and also happened to receive an unsatisfactory product.

Amazon, as usual, was great executing the return process. Maybe I got a lemon...

Accident victim able to sleep in bed instead of recliner for first time in 7 years! Marjorie Alley #2011-07-03

I was in a bad accident almost 7 years ago and had C-spine injuries. Since then I have also developed fibromyalgia. The constant pain has been so bad that I have been unable to sleep in a bed since the accident. I've slept in a recliner instead, which has only worsened my posture by pushing my head forward and hunching my shoulders forward and inward.

I've thought about buying an adjustable bed with a memory foam mattress, but they cost thousands of dollars and I had no way of knowing if it would work for me.

I read the reviews of the Sleep Innovations 12-inch Sure Temp Memory Foam mattress and decided to try it. At this price, what did I have to lose? I ordered a twin size, thinking I could always use it as a spare bed if it did not work out for me. Shipping was amazing - I ordered late in the afternoon and it arrived the next day in a large, heavy box. My husband and son carried the box upstairs. Son is young and strong and says he could have managed it himself, but it was definitely heavy. Anything larger than a twin would need two people, no question.

We set it up on an existing older box spring and left it uncovered to air out. There was a mild chemical odor, but not too bad at all -- nothing like the smelly memory foam topper by another company we bought some years ago and had to return after airing it out for almost a week!

By that night I was ready to try it. I had also purchased a Sleep Innovations contour memory foam pillow, so I put that down with the larger contour side under my neck. I've never had a foam mattress before, so it was startling to feel how different it is from an inner spring mattress.

There is a squishiness, but at the same time it supports, so as I lay on my back I felt more like I was floating rather than sinking down into a valley. I had once tried an inflatable air mattress and that was awful -- it was hard in spite of being filled with air, and it had a rolling motion that made me feel almost sea-sick. The foam mattress compresses under the heavy parts of the body without disturbing the rest of the mattress.

In the reviews some people aid they felt that the foam made them too hot, and others said it was okay. The Sure Temp technology is supposed to be better than the first generation of memory foam mattresses. Having never had a Tempurpedic, I can't say whether the Sleep Innovations is cooler, but I found it to be comfortable. There was a little warmth, but with my fibromyalgia, that is a cozy feeling ... when I was sleeping in the recliner I used a thick sheepskin-like pad in both summer and winter.

Due to my injuries I have been unable to tolerate any pressure whatsoever on the outside of my shoulders, so lying on my side has been out of the question. With the Sleep Innovations I can still only tolerate a minute or two on my side at the most, but I have noticed that when I do try lying on my side there is far less hip discomfort.

I expected that if I were able to tolerate lying down on the Sleep Innovations mattress it would be only for a few minutes at a time and I would have to gradually build up. To my amazement, I was able to sleep undisturbed for 3 hours the very first night. This may not sound like much to you, but for someone who has had to sleep propped up in a recliner for nearly 7 years, it was like a miracle.

I have experimented with using different pillows under my knees -- my hip flexors are very tight after being in the V-position of a recliner for so long. After a few days I was able to sleep all night in a real bed! I am still in chronic pain and wake during the night, but I can see so much improvement after only a couple of weeks. One big thing is that I am now breathing better -- I had not realized how much the recliner was compressing my diaphragm. It is amazing to be able to lie down peacefully and take really deep breaths. I can also feel that my neck is being gently nudged in the right position --- the contour pillow cradles my neck in somewhat the same way my traction device does, but gently, without the rigid, ungiving sensation. My chiropractor, acupuncturist, and massage therapist are all very happy. I told my chiropractor that I finally feel as I am working with him to improve my alignment, instead of against him by hunching up in the recliner.

This review may not be relevant to those of you with normal necks and backs and good health, but I hope some other accident victims and fibromyalgia sufferers will find this to be helpful. As others have commented, a foam mattress is not for everyone -- my husband prefers a firm innerspring mattress.

But for this "princess" who cannot tolerate even the pressure of a "pea," this mattress has been a real blessing! As I lie in bed at night saying my prayers, I smile like a little child and say with delight and wonder, "Look, Lord! I am lying down in a real bed!"

INCREDIBLE COMFORT! Jason Brink "Jason" #2011-06-20

I really needed a new mattress, and I was somewhat skeptical about ordering a mattress online. I did a lot of research, and found that the Sleep Innovations mattress rated higher than a "BOB" that are sold in local furniture stores, but rated slightly lower than a "Dynasty" mattress. I really did not want to spend more than $500 for a mattress, so I finally decided on the queen Sleep Innovations 12" mattress. Let me tell you, this was the BEST purchase decision I have ever made.

I am a large male at 340lbs, and I was concerned about how this mattress would support me. I also had severe hip, knee, shoulder and back pain. After sleeping 1 night on this mattress, my pain started to diminish. After day 4 of sleeping on this mattress, my pain was GONE!

The mattress came packaged in a small box about 4ftx3ftx4ft, and was compressed into a vaccuum packaged bag. I thought it would take a long time to expand. But be prepared, it expanded almost as soon as I cut the packaging. It fully expanded in just a day. I did not think I would be able to sleep on it the first night, but the instructions with the mattress say that it is BETTER to sleep on it, because you body heat helps the mattress to expand. It was great to sleep on it the first night!

Some minor drawbacks, that aren't even enough to mention, except for the discerning person, this might be relevant. The cover that comes on the mattress is very soft and silky, so your mattress pad or sheets may slide a bit. This was solved by purchasing a mattress protector that had a more course texture, plus it helps to further protect the mattress. The next thing is that if you are a large person, you may "sink" in more where you are heaviest, it is very comfortable, but the mattress does recover after you get up. I recommend turning the mattress weekly for the first month so that it is balanced. Also, because of the "sink" where you are heavy, you have to roll a bit to get out of bed. I don't mind doing this for the comfort that I experience when sleeping. My family who is smaller and weigh less than 150lbs do not experience this, so I think this is just for larger people.

I hope this review helps others in making their decision. This mattress is well worth it for under $400!

Feels like a cloud, sleep like a rock! Tired Mom #2011-01-22

My husband and I researched these beds for weeks before purchase. Such great reviews for this one and now we are one of the happy customers. This bed is not hard at all. The top layer is so soft and comfy, we slept wonderful the first night. The smell is like a slight chemical smell, and I'm a little OC so trust me-it's there but it has gone away after about a week. We feel like this is the best money spent on a "large" item in years. I hope you read this and get one b/c it is the best sleep I've ever had, trust me I have a two year old! ;)

I am in love Katherine Raver #2011-07-29

I bought this mattress based on other's reviews. Knowing that it was virtually impossible to return this item, I bought it on faith. Its a major advancement from my springy mattress. My spring mattress was decent quality, but this is a huge upgrade.

I like a firm mattress, so this is mattress is perfect. I didn't "bottom out" like some people commented on. I am 5'11", 170lbs female. I am a side sleeper and have to sleep with a pillow between my knees. This mattress has not been a problem. I already slept on memory foam pillows, so I can't comment on regular pillows versus the foam pillows.

I noticed that more people commented on a lingering smell with the 10" mattress. I have a very sensitive nose, so I opted to buy the 12" because it seemed like less people had this problem. I opened the package in the AM and could smell what everyone was talking about. It wasn't overpowering though. By the evening, the smell was gone and I slept on it that night.

There was one review that talked about living in Japan and sleeping on futon style mats. I slept on a foam mat in college. I lived in Hawaii and this was normal. It was some of the best I have ever had in my life. This mattress is a more expensive version of this mat.

It hasn't been long enough to comment on the other reviews about it wearing out.

For the price, I consider this a great purchase.

Pain free and better sleep! GoForARun #2011-04-18

For over two years I had been having back pain and it continued to get worse. After 6 weeks of physical therapy I broke down and had an MRI. Discovering that you will have on-going back issues for the rest of your life is some of the worst news you can get at a very active age 31. I have degenerative disc disease and a bulge in L4/L5. The pain had become unbearable and I was referred to a spine specialist. He suggested I look into a tempur-pedic mattress. After checking the cost and realizing the average expense was $3,000....I had to really look at my options.

A friend called me crazy and recommended I try this mattress. I ordered it without hesitation and it arrived at my house exactly one week later (free shipping). The box was 94 lbs and the mattress was shrink-wrapped. Once opened it expanded within about 1 hour and I couldn't resist putting it on my box springs immediately. I slept the first night so well that I didn't realize sleep like this was possible until now. I quit taking my anti-inflammatory medication within two days and am sleeping better than I have ever slept in my entire life. The new foam scent that was referenced disappeared within three days. What used to take me 2-3 hours to fall asleep now takes only 20 minutes.

This was the best money I have spent in several years. I am now able to wake up at 5 AM without an alarm clock well rested and ready to go. I have also resumed my weight training and running at full capacity and pain free. NOTE: My previous mattress was a pillow-top Sealy only 2.5 years old and had cost me over $1,000.

Great Item for the Money! Womensvball #2011-01-18

I read EVERY review at the time that I ordered this mattress. I was very skeptical about ordering a mattress off the internet!! And I can concur with most all the reviews...It is a wonderful mattress that is very warm! Sometimes maybe a little too warm, but I have the worst neck and back problems and the mattress I was sleeping on was just not helping it at all. My chiro said I needed a tempurpedic but I would never be able to afford that! SO I started doing some searching on memory foam mattresses. I absolutely love this mattress. It has helped me sleep so much better and sooo much more supportative than my other mattress and for a great price too! I am always cold natured. I thought this would be perfect for me as well with all the reviews about how warm it is. Well, in the winter I sleep with Flannel sheets and a heavy down comforter, but I quickly found out that I could NOT us the flannel sheets on this mattress. It does get quite toastie! But I am very please with my purchase!
It also comes vacuum suctioned and rolled up in a box that you would never think a queen size mattress would fit in. Don't be alarmed, it does expand quite easily to normal size. I waited the full 2 days as requested because I didn't want to chance messing up it's relaxing process before I slept on it, but the moment I cut open the plastic it went immediately to the full expansion. Sort of like a life raft inflating once you pull the cord. It litterally took about ten seconds from the first little rip in the plastic. Kind of commical and amzing all at once.

Happy with my purchase Tabitha Ward #2011-03-14

My boyfriend and I began having back troubles on our current bed, and were in desperate need of a new mattress, despite his protest. He didn't want to spend the money, and any time I would catch him stretching his back in pain he would play it off like it was nothing. FINALLY I convinced him to look at mattresses with me, and not only that, but I must have laid out a very persuasive proposal, for I talked him into upsizing to a King! So, we ventured out one weekend to a local Ashley Furniture store to begin getting a ballpark figure on how much this investment would run us, being that we had to now purchase a new bed frame as well. The sales lady, when I questioned her about the therapeutic and memory foam type mattresses, informed me that a King size purchase of that type would run us well over 2-grand for the mattress set alone. Well, needless to say I put that option out of my head, and we narrowed our search to only spring mattress sets. I found myself leaning toward a mattress set of either the Sealy or Serta brand, so the sales representative estimated a total that included the mattress, box springs, and a bed frame we were fond of, and the total was near two-grand. We told her we would think about it and we left the store.

Thus began my search online to see if I could find one of the mattresses we had tested, and liked, at a cheaper price. I went to my trustworthy friend of Amazon, and so happened to run across the Sleep Innovations Memory Foam Mattress. I didn't understand how a King size memory foam mattress could be so cheap - It baffled me! As one could assume, I was very skeptic. "There's no way this could be good quality" I thought. So out of curiosity I looked at the number of reviews. At the time it had only about 60 reviews, and over 50 of them were 5/5 - and the reviews were of happy satisfied people who were extremely glad they took the chance on this mattress. Now I had a truly difficult decision to make. I originally didn't want to purchase a mattress online that we hadn't lain on in person - understandably I didn't want to waste our money on a mattress we hated - but this mattress was such a good price, and I had always wanted a memory foam mattress (I had a pillow of this brand and loved it).

Finally, after reading probably almost every review on Amazon about this mattress, I decided to throw caution to the wind and purchase this mattress (the boyfriend had left picking out the mattress to me, as choosing between hundreds of mattresses turned out not to be `his thing' to do on the weekends - and he claimed it to be something a woman would enjoy. HAH!) Besides, anything was an improvement to what were sleeping on at the time.

The mattress arrived earlier than the initial estimated arrival date, and I had even chosen free super saver shipping (it arrived exactly 1 full week after I ordered it - I ordered it on a Friday, and it arrived the following Friday). I already expected a small box, in comparison to the size of the mattress, but when I opened the box and dragged the mattress out, despite my knowledge from previous customer reviews, I was still shocked. I knew it was compressed, but still it only looked like half of a king size mattress folded accordion style - It looked like a twin! "Surely," I thought, "I didn't make some mistake and I was supposed to have purchased two of these...maybe that is why it was so cheap." But alas, my fears were proven unnecessary. After reading the instructions on how to properly remove it from the plastic in which it was sealed, I sliced it open and it grew rapidly before my eyes! Not only was it compressed accordion style, it had been folded in half like a sub sandwich as well! This is a mammoth of a mattress, so I recommend anyone who purchases it to open it up in the location you intend to leave it (the UPS tracking said it weight around 105lbs).

It has almost been a full month since we purchased this mattress, and we are simply in love. I could almost swear that not even a few days have gone by without either my boyfriend or I remarking on how amazing it is. Some people complained about a lingering smell. It did in fact have a chemical-like smell upon opening, but after about 2-3 days it was fully gone. Even so, during those 3-days the smell was certainly not unbearable as some thought, but actually had very mild potency, and we slept on it the first night without any trouble.

Also related to the first night, I was a bit worried we would have to sleep on the downstairs sofas the day it arrived, because we had a dinner date we couldn't miss, so I was unable to assemble the bed frame (which had arrived the same day) and unseal the mattress until 9:00pm. By the time I had finished assembling the bed and laying the box springs (two XL-Twins) in their place, it was 10:00pm. After we cut the seal, however, it was quickly apparent that it would take no time for it to expand. It was done in 30minutes or less! There may have been additional minor expansion that went on unnoticed to us, but for the most part it was finished (and the instructions actually say it will be ready to sleep on the first night, and that body warmth actually speeds up the process).

I will never go back to a box-spring mattress again. Your body sinks right into this one as soon as you lay down. It has never been more comfortable to sit in bed and read a book before going to sleep. Also, on our old bed I used to wake up frequently through-out the night when the cats jumped on the bed, my back pained me, or when nature called. Now, however, I never even notice when the cats or my boyfriend move around in the bed, never wake up with back pains, and only wake up for bathroom calls if it is absolutely necessary. I find myself sleeping straight through the night until my alarm goes off for work, a blessing I haven't had in years.

Some think foam mattresses are too firm, but they only appear to be at first. Once you sit/lay on them you begin to sink in. So it is firm, but it yields and molds to your body, something I find much more beneficial and comfortable than a soft mattress with no support. Also I can not attest to the mattress causing an increase or decrease in temperature caused by body heat or anything of that matter. I have noticed no difference.

I am a thousand times grateful I took a chance on this mattress, and I would highly urge anyone who is debating on the matter to do so themselves!

Sleep Innovations 12 Inch Memory Foam Review: Would you buy a mattress sight unseen? H. J. Spivack #2010-10-04

A great deal and a comfy bed, but... LethargicLeopard #2011-08-19

I bought this mattress back in february because I was sick to death of my water bed and the back pain I was getting from it. I did alot of research trying to find out what would be the best to get, what was recommended and the like and decided to purchase one of these since the price was in my range and there were alot of good reviews on it. I received it shortly after placing the order, so the shipping was fast. The packaging was very secure and pretty compact. It was fairly heavy but I managed it myself with little effort though it was a bit cumbersome. I eagerly opened it up and layed it out and let it expand. I waited about 6 hours for it to puff up before using it. It puffed up pretty quick but I gave it some more time for good measure. Some people mention a strong smell from theirs. I didn't have any smell at all, I was glad of that. I wanted to use it for a while so that I would be able to review how good it was to sleep on before I reviewed it. After all the time sleeping on it, it is a comfy bed. I don't get hot sleeping on it like others have mentioned other than my normal hotness from blankets and the like. I'm a very hot sleeper and I haven't had any problems with heat. The one thing I should have done though is gotten one with more memory foam on it. I'm a side sleeper and for me it is a little firm which I thought might be the problem when I bought it so I knew in advance. But I figured I can always buy a topper if it wasn't soft enough whereas if it was to soft I couldn't do anything about it later. So if you are a side sleeper like me you may want to get something with more memory foam or you can get this and decide how well it suits you and get a topper if necessary like I'm going to do. I'm 6 feet tall and 190lbs. But if you are looking for a memory foam mattress I do highly recommend this one. It is a great deal and well worth the money. But if you are a side sleeper you may need a topper. When I lay on my back I do find it to be very comfortable though. But I can't fall asleep that way. My cats love sleeping on it to btw lol.

Convenient, Comfortable, and Affordable! CAblossom #2011-08-08

You just can't beat having the convenience of the mattress delivered in a box with the free super saver shipping! It was super easy to set up, just opened the box, cut through the layers of plastic, and poof I had a bed! And what was so amazing is it is probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on, and I am just marveling at what a good price it was! I am so grateful for all the other people who wrote reviews which helped me decide on this product and I couldn't be happier! I ordered a bed frame as well, which I will be receiving today, but even just on the floor the mattress is completely comfortable without a box spring or anything! I highly recommend this mattress!

Good bed. Holds shape well so far. T. Hill #2011-08-02

Bought this about a month ago. I'm 6'1 220 lbs. and my wife is 5'7 150 lbs. and the bed seems to hold it shape well thus far. Our old bed had a pillowtop on it, and while it was nice to have soft bed to crawl into, my wife is a, "snuggler" that constantly moves toward me during the night. In order to have any room at all, I would have to sleep toward the middle of the bed too. Thus, by the middle of the night a, "sinkhole" would develop in the middle of the bed, and both of our backs would be sore and stiff by morning. This bed, however, holds it shape very well. If you're used to a pillowtop, the bed may be more firm than what you would think a foam bed might be, but not uncomfortably so. The major positive aspect of the bed was the price. FAR cheaper than name brand foam beds, but just as good in my opinion.

On a final note, as other reviews have said, it is heavy and fairly hard to maneuver , so if you can open it up close to where you plan to use it, it would make it easier on yourself. As far as the smell, it wasn't overbearing by any means, but it was noticeable for about 24 hours or so. If you have a sensitive nose, it might be worse for you.

TOO HOT! John #2011-07-31

Mattress is, overall, very comfortable; being neither too soft or too firm, I found the first few nights to be incredibly enjoyable and still enjoy laying on the mattress for short periods of time....

However, after laying on the mattress for a short period of time I start to feel my body temperature rising, and shortly thereafter I twisting and turning in an attempt to elude the heat spot on the mattress. I've had many nights were I am constantly up and down, playing with the thermostat, and moving from one side of the mattress to the other in an attempt to cool off; I am actually writing this during one of my frequent waking moments caused by the heat-retaining property of this bed.

I really want to give this mattress a five star rating because it is an awesome product in all regard outside of the heat-retention issue, which seems to be getting worse as the mattress ages.

Comfy bed! Lance Robinson #2011-07-28

We were skeptical about ordering a bed online, having not tried it or seen it in person. We took a chance and we were glad we did! This bed is so comfortable! It has the softness of memory foam, but it is still firm enough to give good support. Some reviews mentioned a weird odor. I noticed this for about 10 minutes after opening it, but haven't smelled anything since. We've been sleeping on it for about a month now. I also saw some reviewers mentioned that it retains heat. This hasn't been an issue for me. I typically wake up hot & kick the covers off, but that happened with my old spring mattress, too. So I don't think that's something I can blame the mattress on, I think it might be the thick comforter I use. I would recommend this bed and I'm so glad we took a chance on it!

Confused by all these reviews?? J. Kaplanek #2011-07-21

I must admit, I was totally confused by the reviews. Hot or not, stinky? too firm or perfect? I studied each review and did my research before buying this bed. I decided in the end it was worth the risk to buy it. I figured if it was to stinky..spray it with fabreeze. If it was too firm, Id buy the 2" memory foam pad I saw for cheap on the auction site.
I have severe RA and fibromyalgia and the plush expensive pillowtop mattress I have was not cutting it. I had many sleepless nights rolling around, and much pain & stiffness in the mornings. I really needed a bed that worked for me.
This bed arrived 4 days after ordering. Yes the box is heavy! My son was helpful. It was placed on a platform support and unrolled like magic. I took in a few deep breathes expecting to inhale somewhat of a skunk chemical odor according to the reviews. The odor was VERY faint and didnt bother me at all, but before putting the bedding on I sprayed it with fabreeze just to make sure it didnt cook up some kind of awful smell later.
I slept on the this bed for a week before deciding it was maybe just a tad bit firm for me. After all, I was used to the pillow top. I found a good bargain on a pad on that auction site. NOW, it is perfect!! My pain and stiffness have really diminished, and I feel well rested.
I LOVE this bed. I would not be afraid to buy it again. All of the negative reviews seem to be easily rectified. If your like me and a bit confused by what you have read...dont hesitate, buy it!

60 days and I'm very pleased Debi Hopkins #2011-05-31

After having slept on a torture devise for 2 years, along with wrist and shoulder surgery. I'd resorted to setting in a recliner until I would finally pass out from exhaustion.

Desperate, I researched mattresses as if I were on a mission to retain my sanity -- alas, buyers here at Amazon who are willing to post honest reviews influenced me to try this mattress. Thanks to all of you!

The mattress was shipped quickly, easy to unpack and set up. We let it breath and expand for maybe 10 hours and dove right in. There was no smell at all after we got it out of the packaging. The first couple of nights -- we weren't sure if was better or not. It does take a few nights to adjust.

With each night, I found I was more and more comfortable and actually sleeping more soundly. This weekend, I even overslept for the first time in I don't remember how long.

I would recommend this mattress to anyone -- period.

AHHHHHHMAZING!! Ellaine #2011-05-30

I've never written a review before, so excuse the length. It was the reviews that helped me make such a good decision and I would just like to pay it forward...

I just moved to a new apt and decided it was time to let my previous mattress go as dents had formed and I'd already had it for over 8 years. I had slept on my friend's tempurpedic and thought that memory foam would be the route I'd take, especially because I have a herniated disc in my back and word was that mem foam helps. Only problem-- I was not willing to spend over $2,000 on a Tempurpedic. I'd spoken to my boss because he had told me that he and his wife had purchased a Bob-o-Pedic and that it was the best bed ever. He also has back problems, so I figured if he said it was good then I should try it.

I purchased the Celestial pillowtop, it was dual firmness, one side was firm and the other plush. I kept the mattress for 2 weeks and it was two weeks toooo long. That was the most painful sleep I'd experienced in years. Firm side was too hard, and plush side was too soft. I woke up each and every morning feeling stiff as a board with my back hurting so much that I was about ready to sleep on the floor until I found a proper mattress. I was getting anxious because it became clear that laying on a mattress in the store for a few minutes is not a great indicator of how it will feel to lay on it for 8 hours.

I had been talking to my girlfriend about my situation and she told me that her b/f's dad had bought a mem foam that came in a box for about $600. She said her b/f's dad loved it and it was the best he'd slept on. I'd heard of the whole bed-in-a-box concept, but I was really skeptical, to me, any mattress that came in a box had to be flimsy because how can you really fold a mattress if it's sturdy? Putting my skepticism aside, I came to Amazon to do some research and see what people were saying. I came across this mattress as one of the cheapest with the most reviews. When I saw that out of 145 reviews only 16 were bad (1,2 & 3 Stars) I decided to try it. Boy am I glad I did!

I will admit, buying a mattress on-line has its pros and cons, the biggest concern I had was having to ship the thing back if I didn't like it. After all the thing is vacuum packed. Well I am glad to say that I have no need for returning it. This is the BEST mattress I've ever slept on.

I had to have the mattress shipped to my job because I am never home to receive packages. I was a bit worried about getting it home, because of the size of the box, but I was able to fit it in the back seat of my 2000 Honda Civic with no problem whatsoever. I was not, however, able to get it up 4 flights of steps without some help as the box is about 100 lbs for a queen size.

Finally got the bed into my apt. I put the mattress onto the platform bed and opened it up. as soon as the mattress opened it expanded. It didn't take hours to get to its full size, that happened in perhaps a matter of minutes. As soon as I opened it up I put it in a protective enclosure that I'd gotten from Bobs. I only mention this because I believe I can attribute the fact that there has been no smell emanating from the mattress because it's been enclosed. The slight smell I did notice was almost almond-y, there was nothing chemically overwhelming or intrusive about the smell.

I just slept on the mattress for the first time last night, and I am sitting on it as I write this review. All I can say is that I am sooooo happy I decided to go the Bed-in-a-box route, and that I chose this particular mattress. The mattress is neither too firm, nor too plush. I fell asleep faster than I can remember falling asleep on any other mattress, and I woke up in the morning feeling great. I am a side and stomach sleeper and found the mattress to be great for both.

BOTTOM LINE-- I highly recommend this mattress, its inexpensive and it is super comfortable.

Are you kidding me? Perfect night's sleep! jah3855 #2011-05-24

After reading all the reviews on Amazon, i decided to give this mattress a whirl. I got the 12" king-size to replace my 10-yr old traditional full-size coil mattress. I'm a stomach sleeper, i do a fair amount of weight-lifting/body-building, and i have spinal stenosis (started at age 27, i'm 31 now; used to have paralyzing sciatic nerve pain until a few rounds of spinal cortisone injections). So, selecting a mattress that will support this mix of characteristics was very important to me.

Smell: It's not as bad as some people say. It smells like a new car, sorta, for like a day. Same for all memory foam mattresses, from what I understand. Open the windows and it goes away, no big deal here.

Weight: The 12" king-size comes in a 109lb box. Not too bad to handle if you're an in-shape dude, or have two people lifting it. I didn't have to sign for the package, which was convenient because i'm at work all week like everyone else. To get it up the stairs by yourself, just flip it end over end over end, etc .. don't try to lug it up or pull it or push it. There are two small handle notches in the box, but they're not useful for lifting it. In fact, the box nearly ripped open when i tried using the handle to lift it up a few stairs at first. Oh one note, is that the top protective cover of the mattress is the light-beige-ish side with the zipper; the light-blue-ish part (the thick foam base part) goes DOWN. So when you are unpacking it, it should be an upside-down "U" shape. Like this: /\ ... so when it unfolds, you won't have to flip the entire thing over, which seems like it would be a pain.

Firmness/Comfort: YES! Feels amazing. You do "sink" a tiny bit, this is by design. It feels great to "lock in" your sleeping position and let the bed relieve the points of pressure. I slept like a brick last night, barely moved at all, and had no shoulder soreness, back soreness, or leg stiffness. I routinely wake up with a numb hand or fingers because i find that putting them under my torso (i'm a stomach sleeper) is most comfortable. With this mattress, no probs. My shoulders (which are sort of large i guess) settle right into the foam and my arms are totally relaxed at my sides. If you're a stomach sleeper, you know how crammed up your neck can get because your chin is jammed into the mattress, whether you turn your head to the side or not. With this mattress, your chin is able to settle a bit into the foam and relieve that pressure a bit. NICE !!

Getting in and out of the bed: no big deal, it's not hard to get in and out. In fact, i don't even have a box spring or bed, the mattress sits right on the carpet floor in my bedroom, nice and firm. You just roll right off it, no problem. Some folks mentioned they could (or did) roll right off the bed, but i can't really see how this is possible.

Heat: Nope. No idea what people are talking about regarding mattress heat from this thing. I bought some nice sheets (egyptian 600 thread count) from Amazon and just have one thin blanket on top of that (summer is here!). No heat problem whatsoever. If you're over-weight or have blood pressure issues then maybe !

Cost: Are you kidding me? This is like 1/4 of the price of the mid-grade stuff in the brick and mortar stores. And spending 4-6k on a memory foam from Tempurpedic? Yeah right.

Long-term durability: This is the real variable here. I wasn't able to find any info on how long the mattresses from this company last. Most of the Amazon reviews are fairly recent. I have not had this mattress for very long. Who knows, it could totally lose its firmness, "foam-ey-ness", and overall usability in a few days/months, 3 yrs, or 15 yrs! No idea ... my guess is that when that time comes, you could just buy a memory foam topper for cheap and all the sudden have a brand new bed again. And these things are dust-mite and mold resistant, so that bodes well for longevity.

OVERALL: Impressed so far. My girlfriend loves it too and thinks it's amusing that she can sleep totally sideways if she wants and i still have plenty of room (shes like 5-foot-zero). It won't cause her any allergy issues either. So, unless this mattress loses its durability in a short amount of time, this goes down as one of the best purchases i've ever made.

Wonderful purchase Cookie #2011-05-15

Purchased this Sleep Innovations Queen mattress on 4/9/11---This is great memory foam mattress for the money. We desparately need a new mattress, but in this economy I did not want to pay a thousand or more for a memory foam one. I searched and read reviews and this one seemed to fit what we needed. My husband thought I had lost my mind by ordering a mattress online. When it came, the box was heavy and we did as others said--need to have mattress in your bedroom before opening. We laid it on our old boxsprings and opened the tight wrapping and it began expanding. We slept on it the first night--it does feel kind of firm when you first lay down, but it was comfortable. There was just very slight foam/plastic smell, but was gone in by third night. My husband has back problems and says his back feels much better in the mornings. I sleep better my self. My son stayed at the house while we were on a trip and he slept on our new mattress to see if his back felt better----sure enough, he said he did not have the stiffness and aches he usually has in the mornings---he is going to get one of these mattress for his bed. I could not wait to get back home to my comfortable bed to get a restful sleep. Oh, also the mattress is not hot as some have said in reviews.

Its the real deal! DC #2011-04-28

The bed is amazing! The thickness of the mattress is perfect and it is everything as described, very comfortable, soft yet unbelievably firm. The only thing that was disappointing about the mattress is the protection cover. It is so thin, my bracelet ripped into the thin cover my first time being on the bed.
I would suggest that anyone who gets this bed should get a real protective cover for the matress; you are going to need it!

Deserves the Good Reviews it Has Been Getting Ben W "benw674" #2011-04-25

I've had the mattress for almost two months now. It's my first try at memory foam, and is simply an incredibly comfortable mattress. Unpacking was a breeze, and I slept in it the first night. There was a bit of an odor, but it was not at all unpleasant. It was pretty much gone by the third day. It did take me a week or so to get accustomed to this mattress vs a conventional mattress. I like a firm mattress and that's what this is. At 6' 4" and 230, I don't sink in to this mattress. It somewhat conforms around me, but by no means makes an impression of my body (if that's what you're expecting). I ended up buying the 10" version of this mattress for a second room, and though the memory foam portion is only 1/2" more (3" vs 2 1/2") I find that one is -- I won't say softer -- but it is less firm. It doesn't seem like 1/2" should make a difference, but that one does seem to "give" noticeably more.

One thing I was worried about was the heat issue. I don't like to sleep "hot" and was afraid that would be the deal breaker on this mattress. It hasn't been an issue, and we've already had some hot weather here. That includes a local phenomenon that blows hot winds down the mountains in the evenings and actually makes nighttime temperatures go up. I've remained incredibly comfortable, even on those hot nights. In fact more so than with my old mattress. I guess that doesn't mean others might not get hot with this mattress, as other reviews have stated. I don't doubt those reviewers got hot, as people I know in person and that I trust have told me memory foam is too hot for them. Guess it's all in the individual metabolism.

As to whether this mattress will last, who cares? I can buy four of these for the price of the name brand, so worst case if it only lasts a few years and I replace it a few times, I'm not out any more money than if I bought the name brand (if it lasts as long as they claim). Honestly the only downside I've found to the mattress is I feel so absolutely comfortable when I wake up in the morning that I have to force myself to get out of bed.

Lookout Temperpedic!!! coxm75 #2011-04-12

Got the product it was in a pretty good sized box but light for a mattress. Nice material and it is like it says 12" thick. The only thing that I did not like about it is that they didn't tell you it would be a firm mattress, wish it could have been a medium. However after we put it on an Ergo 400 Adjustable Base it was alot better and I slept a whole lot better!!! Overall this is a great value and quality for your money definitely! Look out Temperpedic this mattress is giving you a run for your money!

we are ordering another for ourselves Sam Drake #2011-04-06

Got this for our guest room, and after the positive comments from our guests, we tried it and are ordering the king size version for our own bedroom.

The Best!!! Pregmama #2011-03-31

I'm currently 5 1/2 months pregnant and received this about a month ago. I'd been having issues sleeping with this pregnancy and I'd wake up sore and in pain every morning. The first night I slept on this mattress i was in heaven, I felt no discomfort or pain the next morning at all. It's great for everyone I myself prefer a soft mattress, but my husband prefers a firm mattress and we both agree this mattress is incredibly comfortable. I've read some reviews where people complain about getting very hot with this mattress, but in my experience (im always hot because of my pregnancy) and my husbands (who is always hot for absolutely no reason) we would beg to differ. It is an amazing mattress and I won't go back to a box spring ever again.

Very Firm! Jackie #2011-02-07

We received this mattress about a week ago after we built a fabulous California King bed! We really longed for a tempurpedic but didn't want to pay thousands for a new mattress. We read every review and decided to give this one a try. We noticed a small smell... but nothing major at all. We've also yet to encounter the heat issue everyone keeps referring to. The only issue (and it's not a bad thing per say) is the firmness of the mattress. It is MUCH firmer than we expected. I personally like this; but, my husband is having a harder time adjusting. He has complained of stiffness in the mornings, but I feel much better! So, if you're a fan of cushy, soft mattresses, this may not be the one for you. Other than that... it's wonderful! Exactly as described and looks great in our bed!

You'd be amazed. . . Crystal Wilson #2011-02-03

Ok, first let me start with some basic information so you can truly understand my review of this mattress. I am 47 and don't have any back problems, etc. I've had a regular spring mattress and it needed to be replaced because it's old and it's giving me terrible backaches. Now, I carefully researched this mattress because just the thought of ordering a mattress on-line seemed crazy to me. After carefully reading everyone's reviews, I decided to order it. It's heavy, my best friend helped me open it and place in on my boxspring. Now, you kinda have to lay on it to get it to flatten because it's (much to my amazement) rolled in a box. So, after doing that it starts to swell and before you know it you're looking at this thick, comfortable mattress. It's firm but very comfortable!! It's high and love that too, I believe it's supposed to be 12 inches...
So, they said you're supposed to wait before you sleep on it, I think I waited 4 hours and went to sleep on it. Now, I can truly give my review this being the morning after. No unpleasant smell, it wasn't uncomfortably warm as someone else wrote. . I get hot fast, and I wasn't too warm at all. Now, the best part. . My first night on this mattress was the THE BEST SLEEP I'VE HAD IN YEARS!!!!!!!!

very nice! cultureman #2011-01-15

ordered this after my $500.00 dollar "back support"spring mattress crapped out on me in less than 3 years. Was a little skeptical never owning a memory foam mattress before. the smell after unpacking was a little strong for a couple days. I sprinkled baking soda all over the top of the mattress and then vacuumed it off after 3 days to help absorb the smell. The bed is wonderful! very firm when you first hit the sheets, but after you settle the mattress settles with you. I have been sleeping great the last few nights i have been on it> I truly love this mattress. no more back pain and it stays relatively cool. I'm a night sweater and have had no problems with this one. I would recommend getting a memory foam pillow or at least a thin pillow. after you sink into the foam of the mattress your head tends to stretch when your sleeping on a traditional pillow. you get that neck crooned too far feeling in the morning. so stay thin or with the foam! other than that, sweet dreams!!!

Firm, Comfortable, & Affordable! Jon Doe #2010-12-23

My wife and I love this mattress. We slept on it within a few hours of it arriving. Yes, it had a chemical smell but nothing toxic or disturbing. After our spring mattress, this queen mattress is AWESOME! It's firm but comfortable. Also, I read a previous review regarding the mattress causing people to sleep hot. We have not had that experience, but it probably is slightly warmer than the spring mattress, which we have gotten used to. Overall, I wanted a memory foam mattress made in the USA, with overall high reviews, and I did not want to pay $5000 for a Tempur-Pedic. Thus, we would highly recommend this great mattress to anyone who is suffering from back pain, restless nights, and overall lack of quality sleep. Thank you. (If there are grammatical/spelling mistakes, I wrote this quickly).

Great mattress Gustavo Cavalcanti #2010-12-23

Pros: Timely deliver; Very minor chemical smell that disappeared within 24 hours; We were able to sleep on it after just 5 hours from opening the package; comfortable and not too firm; I did not notice any difference in back discomfort when waking up (my wife actually said her back was hurting a little) but I noticed I didn't move most of the nights sleeping on this mattress, as opposed to tossing and turning on my own spring mattress; Also when my wife moves I don't even feel it now with a foam mattress.

Cons: Box weighs 112lbs and there are no handles - it's hard to get a grip; My old mattress came with box springs - I tries to use this new one over the boxes but it is about 4 inches wider - so I need to get new boxes or build a new platform for it. I will do the latter with some super thick plywood over the metal frame.

Overall, I think it was a good buy.

Right off the bat the shipping speed is insane fast. Box was a bit heavy but wasn't too big and had hand holds cut in the sides so it was very easy to get upstairs. Unpacking was a snap and set up was even easier. It's kind of fun to watch how fast the bed comes into shape. As soon as the air seal is broken it takes a matter of seconds to grow into your size mattress. We set up in the morning and by bed time it was long ready to be slept on. I did notice that smell people had posted about but it was very very mild.....either I got a good one or others are being a bit dramatic. Speaking of, I am like a human furnace and noticed none of the heat issues others posted about. Amazing support and comfort. I would often change positions many times before settling into sleep.....with this mattress I fell over and was out cold. The truest test is with my wife who happens to be 8 1/2 mos. pregnant with twins right now. In our old bed she used to have to prop a small pillow under the kids if she side slept and was up every hour or so with discomfort. On this mattress she was up only once and it had nothing to do with bed discomfort. Long story short, for the price vs. what you get this is a deal you'd be crazy not to pull the trigger on it. I can see why people spend 3x this much to get this quality of sleep and it feels even better knowing I got it for under $400. If I could give 6 stars I would.

Great Buy E #2011-01-16

Our mattress unfolded perfectly. It does have some what of a smell however, we had a mattress topper for our queen that had more of an odor to it then this mattress has. I know it will take a little while for the smell to leave but it's nothing i can't stand, especially for a good nights rest.I put my air purifier in the room. I have back trouble and this is going to be such a blessing. I've tried out the Tempur Pedic in the store and few times, but no matter how much pain I've been in, the price for them is way too high. I honestly can't hardly tell any difference compared to the sleep innovations. I actually think the sleep innovations is a little more comfortable. Save your money buy a sleep innovations.I would recommend this product to anyone.

At first our mattress was hard, memory foam is temperature sensitive, because it came to us in weather that was 40F and below it took it awhile to warm up and become softer. I almost sent the mattress back had i not read this on sleep innovations site.
